returning after some time off, two dogs in a house took to a secluded studio in stockholm sweden during spring 2012 to record while on the road. here we have the result of uninhibited access to machines with no time constraints and no distractions from the outside world. this freedom allowed the duo to expand upon their ideas of deconstructing conventional song structure and harnessing the power of what immediately surrounded them in the moment. two full side tracks that will absolutely crush and/or isolate anyone who crosses through the sonic pathway of them. perfect sounds for the apocalyptic world we live in.

dope me / does caroline know? is a slightly clubbier affair-less sun ra and more soul capsule-but still possesses the air of strangeness that makes the duo so unique. each artist leaves his mark within the first few measure of dope me. the steady high-hats and flawless kick drum are straight out of dazes playbook, while the nervous piano and 3 chairs-style claps are unmistakably bruno. as for the slurred vocal pleading >dope me..dope me<, thats anyones guess. the track carries on for a solid nine minutes as half-melodies and quasi-hooks slide in and out of the mix. the b-side, does caroline know?, takes us deeper and darker. the drums are plodding, the mood is ominous, and a series of dreamlike flourishes add to an already eerie groove. like the a-side, its a surrealistic style of house that only these two could deliver. the artwork, as usual, is done by daze maxim.

daniel stefanik is one of the techno and house newcomers of the last years. his carefreeness as a dj behind the decks and his likeable appearance are literally distinctive for a new generation of young, down-to-earth producers from germany, which are the result of the influence of väth, villalobos and hawtin on the one side, and solid but hedonistic house on the other. whereas many producers nowadays have dedicated themselves to only one musical direction, the influence of kerri chandler, chez damier or kevin saunderson is clearly noticeable in stefanik’s music. his longplay debut for cocoon recordings is a mirror of all these influences and yet it’s so up-to-date and contemporary like only few other techno and house albums today.
